For this special project, three choirs joined forces: BYAC (conducted by Johannes Dewilde), Chamber Choir Flanders (conducted by Jeroen Keymeulen) and Viermaliks (conducted by Tom Johnson). Together, we presented the world premiere of a new, monumental choral work by composer Michiel Verfaillie: a contemporary setting of the seven O Antiphons, the ancient liturgical chants expressing the longing for the coming of Jesus in the week before Christmas.

A Summer's Day

Variations on European folksongs

June 2025 - Eglise St-Pierre Uccle

Under the title A Summer's Day, we performed a series of works rooted in folk music traditions from different parts of Europe. Each piece starts from a local language, rhythm or melody, but at the same time reaches beyond the boundaries of country or time. In many cultures, summer is a time of transition: of light at its peak, of rituals, celebrations, singing. From the ritual sound world of Tormis' Jaanilaulud - St John's Songs, traditional songs around midsummer, via the intense, image-rich Lorca Suite by Rautavaara, to the clear simplicity of 5 English Folksongs by Vaughan Williams. Tender sounds alternate with soft and wistful melodies; the human voice as a carrier of language, emotion and memory.
